Detoxification: Eating Disorders
June 19, 2008 – 1:04 pmThere are many types of eating disorders. Obesity, anorexia nervosa, bulimia, compulsive overeating, are just a few of the types of eating disorders. Some disorders can be hard to diagnose and even harder to control, but help is here.
It used to be thought that eating disorders were caused by habits, which some of them are, of course. But true disorders such as anorexia, can have chemical imbalance in the brain as well. Like depression and many other disorders, it isnt about being lazy or getting over something or self-control. The situation is much deeper and needs to be dealt with by a professional.
Eating Disorders Are Individually Diagnosed
When it comes to eating disorders, there is no blanket cure. Each person needs to be individually diagnosed and put on a special program. Programs will include individual therapy and group therapy.
Other types of therapy can be useful for eating disorders. Being involved in a sport or some kind of movement can change brain patterns. Yoga, Tai Chi, adventure therapy, equine therapy are all good disciplines to try. Meditation, acupuncture and energy work can also be beneficial for eating disorders.
