Detoxification: Drug Addiction Prevention
June 20, 2008 – 1:07 pmPeople all over the world join forces to work towards drug addiction prevention. As illegal drugs are transported across borders, customs officials battle against the drug trade by seizing the drugs. Governments are working together to fight international drug activity. As law enforcement agencies are joining in the war against drugs, crops used to manufacture drugs are destroyed. These agencies are seizing the chemicals and other materials used in the manufacturing of drugs. Felony drug activity leads to prison terms as arrests are made when people are found in possession of illegal drugs.
Countries spend a lot of money on education so people can learn about drugs and the risks involved in their use. People are becoming more aware of the dangers of prescription drug abuse. Part of the drug abuse problem relates to supply and demand. As long as people continue to purchase illegal drugs, manufacturers and dealers will continue to supply them. Education about drugs and their dangers may assist in decreasing the demand for drugs.
There are programs in the United States that teach children to say no to illegal drugs and underage use of alcohol or tobacco. Illegal drug use and underage smoking or drinking is discouraged by the media and entertainment industry. Employers conduct drug testing and provide employees with education and access to treatment.
The War on Drugs Continues
Parents, teachers, and religious leaders work together in an attempt to teach children to refrain from using illegal drugs. Individual counseling is available for teenagers who are at risk. Long term patterns of drug abuse are reduced by family intervention. People who receive treatment for addictions have access to education and counseling. Despite the war that is raging, the drug problems continue to exist. Hopefully, continued drug prevention efforts will someday end the long battle.
